IH.SM students explored marine molecules with hands-on practice and interactive quizzes, guided by top experts Prof. Rodrigues & Dr. Custódio

The Institute of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (IH.SM), in partnership with the CCMAR – University of Algarve, recently hosted an inspiring event focused on marine bioactive molecules and their applications. The sessions brought together IH.SM students eager to learn, exchange, and experience new scientific perspectives. This special program took place on September 24 and 25, 2025.

Meet the Experts

Prof. Maria João Rodrigues –  University of Algarve
Dr. Luísa Custódio – University of Algarve

Event Highlights – A Two-Day Journey

Students embarked on an exciting two-day learning journey, combining theory, hands-on practice, and interactive challenges designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding.

Day 1 – Theory and Practice

The first day offered a perfect balance of theoretical lectures and hands-on practical sessions. Students explored the fascinating world of marine bioactive molecules, learning about their chemical properties, potential applications, and relevance in real-world contexts. Practical exercises allowed participants to manipulate samples and conduct experiments, reinforcing their understanding in an interactive and engaging way.

Day 2 – Interactive Quiz

The second day featured an interactive quiz, challenging students’ knowledge while fostering collaboration and teamwork. Participants recalled key concepts from the first day, discussed insights with peers, and applied their learning in a fun, dynamic environment. The friendly competition made the session both educational and memorable.

For IH.SM students, this event was more than just a course. It offered a unique opportunity to engage directly with leading experts, expand scientific skills, and gain inspiration for future research in marine biotechnology. The experience strengthened their academic journey and highlighted the potential of marine science as a field of discovery and innovation.
